 Programs & Services Overview

Please take a moment to complete the Choices for Children Community Services Survey.

Children learningOur Resource & Referral program offers a full range of information and services for families and child care providers. These include support in developing, operating and licensing a quality child care facility; identifying and providing training and education to be a knowledgeable parent and child care provider; guidance in choosing a child care provider and finding financial and family resources; and advocating for families and child care providers.

Since 1980, Choices for Children’s Child Care (Alternative Payment) Subsidy Program has utilized state and federal funds to provide parents with financial assistance for child care services. Parents meet income requirements and have a need for child care while they work, look for employment, attend training or participate in CalWORKS activities. Parents who are incapacitated, who have children at risk of abuse or neglect, or have children with special needs may also be eligible. Parents have the option to choose any public or private licensed or exempt child care programs in the county that is served.

The Child Care Food Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Services and the California Department of Education. The program provides training and cash reimbursement to in-home providers for serving nutritious meals to enrolled children ages birth through 12 years. Parents are assured that their children receive nutritious meals while in child care. Children benefit by being introduced to different types of foods and learning healthful eating habits to last throughout their lives.
